If you know a guy, that knows a guy, that knows a guy that works at some type of place where your degree would apply for an internship there, start talking to them now somehow. Let them know your interested in EE and see if they will take you around the workplace and introduce you, or start some type of communication with them NOW!
The key to internships is connections in my opinion. I know guys with close to 4.0's that didn't get internships and others with 3.2's that did. I've had an internship every summer (2 so far) and I'll be a Junior this coming year. Most people don't get internships after their freshman year, its all about who you know so you can get a foot in the door. Once your in, prove you belong there.
